Camping

I survived camping with a toddler! It really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I don't know if we'll do it again for a while, but it was really fun.

We arrived Friday afternoon and toured the campsite. It was small..but so was our tent. We had enough stuff to last us a week (because I had no idea what to bring) and while Adam and Will set up the tent, I unpacked everything else. Then I remembered that I should probably keep all the food in the car because of animals...so I packed it all back up. Shortly after that..I was bit by a mosquito. (Oh yeah..this is what I don't like about camping.) I completely forgot about the bugs! So I sprayed my whole body and then I sprayed Will's whole body. And then I remembered the need for suntan lotion. I'm not sure which you are supposed to put on first...

Will did remarkably well considering he only had a few trucks to play with. He actually wasn't that into sticks..which I was intitally concerned about. There was a nice lake to swim in and he really enjoyed that. On Saturday we went on a hike. Adam was pretty sure that it would be a short hike up to the fire tower...but it turned out to be 8 miles. I was just glad I wasn't the one carrying Will! Will seemed to like being carried in the pack. And he slept on the way up...and on the way back, waking up just long enough to enjoy the view at the top and have a snack.

This week Adam has to work every single day...so Will and I are on our own. I've arranged for a few play dates..but I didn't have any today and I ended up doing what I feared the most...shopping. I love to shop and its so easy to buy things for Will..too easy. He went home with two books, a new bath toy, and a shape sorter. I justified it by telling myself that he really needs these toys...and I didn't buy a thing for myself. We won't be going shopping again for a while.
