Beaches of the North Shore

I have now completed my second full week as a stay-at-home mom. I guess I should stop counting the weeks because it would go on forever. I suppose I am still coming to terms with the fact that I don't have to go back to work!

Will and I have settled into a fairly comfortable routine. Morning begins with the slathering of sun lotion all over our bodies and the donning of the swimsuits. Will has more swimsuits than me..which is kind of scary. Oh yeah..and before the swimsuit I always put on the swim diaper. They are expensive but totally worth it. On one occasion I neglected to make the switch and the regular diaper exploded. Gross.

So Will and I are beach bums. This past week we could be seen at Singing Beach with the girls, West Beach with Adam and Brackenberry Beach with the Hubbards and crew. The water has been unseasonably warm and the temperatures seasonably sweltering including humidity which I loath. (I'm blaming it all on global warming). We have quickly discovered that the best time to actually go to the beach is after Will's nap..around 2. The sun is not as harsh and the tide has begun to go out creating larger beaches. At Brackenberry...Will helped the other kids look for hermit crabs in the tide pools. It was so exciting!

So with each passing beach day I have been staying longer as Will has grown more accustomed. However, on Friday we developed a situation that I am not quite sure what to do about. We were experiencing record heat, so I thought the cool ocean breeze would be more comfortable for Will. We spent over three hours hanging out and on Saturday, Will woke up with a heat rash!

I feel incredibly bad about the rash, but Adam assures me it happens when babies sweat to compensate for their clogged pores. He looked the rash up online to make sure that was what Will had...and as far as rashes go...it's not that bad! (Some are totally sickening). It's just little red bumps on his upper torso and a few on his face. It doesn't seem to bother him and Dr. Dad has assured me it will disappear in a few days time. In the meantime I am under strict orders to keep the kid cool! I've been giving him cool baths at night and we've been swimming in the pool here at our place which he doesn't love..but its better than nothing. I also came up with a great water "game" for Will to play indoors. I put a big bowl of water on the kitchen floor and gave him all sorts of things to play with in it. He loved it and so did I until he got up and sat in the bowl and water went everywhere! I guess it was a good excuse to clean the kitchen floor.

Now I am preparing to begin another week of full time motherhood..one which I will not number. We've got lots to do and many beaches to see...including a visit to Portsmouth, NH! Until the rash goes away....
